2010 Trip: To Hamburg
2nd June 2010
Today, I spent basically the entire day on the train. There was forest, hills, towns, cities, wind farms, streams, rivers, highways, tunnels, bridges and all the usual things you see from a train.
But I’m getting a little ahead of myself. Angela made me poridge for breakfast - with frozen blueberries, which was delicious, and then escorted me to the train station. I grabbed some bits and pieces for lunch on the way.
I changed trains, this time to a high speed ICE train in Frankfurt in the middle of the day. I arrived in Hamburg around 6 and caught a local train to Buchholz in der Nordheide, 25 minutes south of the city. Here, I was met by Elaine, my ex-flatmate, who took me in and gave me delicious salad for dinner and a place to sleep.
For those that are interested, this is basically the longest train trip one can do within Germany. It costs, as a base cost, the highest fare they are allowed to charge - currently €129 (around NZD$233).
