2010 Trip: To Prague
23rd May 2010
Today was mainly a day of travel. I got up at reasonable hour (considering I went to bed around 4) and packed all my stuff up. Saying goodbye to my fantastic host Maria, I caught the UBahn (underground) to Wien Miedling, where I caught the train to Praha (Prague).
This took 4 1/2 hours on one of the newer Czech “high-speed” trains. It had a weird baby blue, silver, and yellow paint job that was surprisingly not garish. We sped along through the pretty countryside and eventually arrived in Prague. After a quick trip on the underground and then a tram, I got to my hostel - Sir Toby’s Hostel, to be precise. It was a nice place, but it didn’t have quite the homely atmosphere that others (like Tiger Tim’s in Budapest) had.
Away from the Euro again, the Czech koruna became our bulk standard; unfortunately, ATM’s here only produce really high value notes that most stores refuse to change and the only way to get underground tickets is by a coin only self service machine. Good thinking, that!
So yeah, I got in contact with a friend I had made in Budapest, a Czech girl living in Prague. We are going to catch up tomorrow evening. I also made myself some dinner washed down with some exemplary Czech beer. By this time, it was time for bed!
